When in the action tab of the textbox properties click onto the fx button.

Then I have added my link to Google maps with the first part of a postcode.
="" + Left(Fields!Postcode.Value,4)

(there is probably a better function for this but for now this works for me :D )

When the report is run you can then click on the postcode and see the area in which this is.

Helped quite a bit with admissions and adult education when they wanted to see where students were coming from.

Hello Ryan

Thanks that's a good idea and not something I have thought of doing on reports where the address/post code is displayed, but I can certainly see it being useful - especially for the student finance reports where students are paid based on distance/location.

Thanks for sharing this.

Hello Robin,

No problem, I thought it was a nice little trick.

Obviously you can use the full postcode rather than using the Left function within the RS to get the exact distance.

You could use Google Maps directions for the exact possible routes as well.

Use the Google Maps URL:

Add in your starting Post Code:

Add in the postcode you want to end up at:

When you then click on this it adds in all of the extra code for you and gives you the route.

Hope this helps you further and anyone else.

Hello Ryan

Thanks, I didn't know you could do that either and I could see that being really useful for certain reports and can think of one I must add it to tomorrow!
